O que é que está a acontecer ao Porto? O que me parece é que ninguém se importa que a cidade esteja podre das suas portas para dentro. É uma cidade onde se trabalha e bebem cervejas. Eu não sei, mas isto aqui no meu bloquinho é um crime cometido por parte dos proprietários que cobram rendas milionárias por casas podres, que as vendem para serem demolidas. Acordem porque apesar das casas serem edifícios centenários e na sua maioria históricos, não estão propriamente em Madison Avenue. É por isso que a população está a fugir para a periferia, porque pelo mesmo preço ao menos habita numa casa em… Como é que se diz?… Em condições habitáveis. Devia haver uma lei que obrigasse o proprietário a manter as suas propriedades em condições e/ou habitadas. E mandá-las abaixo para construir mamarrachos devia dar cadeia, mas isto sou eu.

Well, if you have visited the coolest city in Portugal you may have noticed that the citizens pass by and have fun around a city rotting on the inside. It’s core “audience” goes there to work and have a beer at the end of the day. To me it’s wrong and it’s a crime perpetrated by the greedy owners and landlords that charge inflated rents and let their historic buildings rot to hell. Here’s a reality check, those houses aren’t located at Madison Avenue, so stop wanting millionaire rents for rotting houses. That’s why the population has been running to nearby cities where they pay the same but at least it’s for homes in, well… habitable conditions.

Hoje ao circular por Matosinhos, deparei-me com um cenário triste… aqui vão as fotos.

“Um incêndio destruiu um apartamento em Matosinhos, matando 7 gatos que se encontravam no interior.
Segundo a agência Lusa, outro gato e dois cães, que estavam na varanda, foram salvos pelos bombeiros.

O incêndio deflagrou num terceiro andar da avenida Afonso Henriques por volta das 14:30 e foi extinto às 16:10. O edifício foi todo evacuado até ao quinto piso.

Foram necessários 17 bombeiros e 6 viaturas. A causa do incêndio é ainda desconhecida.”

Today was a rather sad day in Matosinhos, these were some of the photos I shot as I was passing by.

“A fire destroyed an apartment in Matosinhos, killing seven cats that were found inside.
According to Lusa agency, another cat and two dogs that were in the balcony, were saved by the firefighters.

The fire broke out on the third floor of a building at avenue Afonso Henriques around 14:30 and was finally extinguished at 16:10. The entire building was evacuated up to the fifth floor.

It took 17 firefighters and six vehicles. The cause of the fire is still unknown”

Hoje recebi mais um brinquedo pelo correio. Apresento-vos a minha nova 28mm f2.8.
Ainda não tive tempo de a testar como deve ser em exteriores, apenas fiz um pequeno teste que está na 2ª e 3ª imagens. Na 2ª podem ver as letras num livro e na terceira é um crop dessa mesma fotografia. Ignorem as baboseiras religiosas.

Estou muito satisfeita com o detalhe que esta lente tem. Para todos os cromos da fotografia, as imagens foram fotografadas a ISO 400 – f2.8 – 1/100.
O seu primeiro teste a sério vai ser na 6ª Feira onde vou fotografar os Airbag n’O Meu Mercedes.

Today I got a new toy in the mail. I here by present you my new 28mm f2.8.
I haven’t had the time to test it properly outside, I only made this quick test you can see on picture Nr2 and Nr3. On picture Nr2 I shot the print in a book and picture Nr3 is a crop of that. Ignore the religious mumbo jumbo, please.

I’m very pleased with the detail this lens has. For all you photography geeks out there, this was shot at ISO 400 – f2.8 – 1/100.
It’s first real test drive will be on Friday where I’ll be shooting Airbag at O Meu Mercedes.

My pinhole is ready and it has already shot a few pictures. But first things first. Here’s the last part of the pinhole assemble.
Over the Easter holidays somewhere in the heart of the northeastern Portuguese country in a very small village named Cortiços, I took the time to finish the pinhole.

I just followed the instructions right here and folded and glued everything as you can see in the picture bellow.

This little box above is the black box, where you stick the metal sheet (mine was cut out of a Sumol Can) with the actual pin hole and where the film is exposed to the light. I used an old needle I found in a drawer, so I can’t really be sure about the precise measure of that hole. But hey, that’s the pinhole spirt, I guess.

Next I had to take apart an used film canister, flip around the spool and put it back together. This was the tricky bit of the whole thing. Next i taped the new unexposed film to the spool with black electrical tape so that I can wind it to rotate the film between exposures just like any film camera.

Next I mounted the film canisters in the black box.

Then I just put everything inside the Cheshire Cat box and it was ready to shoot. All I had to do was roll the film a pull that shutter up.

On the follow up post I will upload some pictures shot with this pinhole and i hope they are usable since it’s my first experience.

I finally managed some spare time to print and cut out some of the pinhole parts.

I bought black cardboard to glue the printed pinhole paper parts because plain paper is just to thin to hold. As you can see bellow, I glued all the sheets to the cardboard before cutting out anything. I used stick glue for this. Regular tube glue usually taints the ink from the printer.

The glue was left to dry for a few minutes before i began cutting the pieces out. I recommend you use a ruler and a x-acto knife to cut everything nice and straight. Don’t use scissors to cut anything but the rounded flaps on the sides of the outside box. Trust me, I’ve got years of building models for my architecture project classes to back this up. Do not use scissors to cut paper unless you want it to look crooked, messy and poorly cut.

So my little friends, we’ve come to the end of part 1 and I leave you with all the nicely cut parts glued to the black cardboard.

I’ve been meaning to make a pinhole camera for a long time but i never got down and did it. Well, I’m compromising here that I will make one and you are here by my witnesses.

Today I stumbled upon this website – www.corbis.readymech.com/en and came across some cool looking pinhole projects and decided with all my might a good will that I was going to make one. But me being a picky lady, I opened photoshop and started messing with one of their designs and decided to make a Tim Burton Cheshire Cat pinhole camera. I know, it’s lame but I like cats. Moving on…

This is the original pinhole camera design.

This is my model for the outside box that will contain the box for the actual 35mm film.

If you like my lame design you can download the template here so that you can build it yourself. I will require you to take pictures of it and with it and show me.

As I said before the copyright of this pinhole project belongs to Corbis. I just messed with it, printed a note with their copyright on my box and hope that they don’t get mad. It’s just a project that I’m doing for fun.

My next step is to buy stuff such as black tape, a can (with coca-cola inside so that i can drink it first), get film and print out the box and actually build it.
